Annual Taste of Health Dinner and "Food-As-Medicine" Evening - 2016

This year's topic "Gut Bacteria - Your Diet - and Depression"

A healthy diet is a critical component of well-being, and the Huntingdon Health and Wellness Association seeks to promote this aspect of wellness through our annual “Taste of Health Dinner and Food-As-Medicine” evening, a community outreach and fundraising effort featuring a delicious, healthful meal and a presentation on the healing properties of food.


The event is held on the Juniata College campus and co-sponsored by Sodexo,The Juniata College Wellness Committee, and The Huntingdon Health and Wellness Association.

2015 Taste of Health Dinner and "Food-As-Medicine" Evening:

 Highlights of last year’s event included a presentation on “Gluten Free:  What’s In It For Me?”, information on gluten-free recipes, safe and unsafe ingredient lists, healthcare practitioner resources for gluten-related disorders, and raffle baskets of items from local businesses, healthcare providers, and local artists.


"Transform Stress: Learn to Relax" Workshop

This outreach allows us to share techniques for dealing with stress.  Attendees get a pamphlet of handouts detailing ideas on how to aid relaxation and ways to help reduce or block out stress factors in your life.  Techniques for stress reduction such as yoga, partner massage, meditation, and visualization are often included in the group exercises and complementary techniques such as raindrop therapy, reflexology, and hot stone massage are demonstrated.

Commit to Be Fit      
Enjoy a day of wellness programs with certified professionals featuring techniques and information to assist you with living a wholesome and healthy life! Commit to Be Fit participants will:  * be guided through holistic health programs for wellness in your mind, body and spirit  * experience a personal journey and discover your strengths and wellness goals  * be inspired and motivated to continue pursuing your wellness goals  * receive handouts  * receive continued support for your goal  * enjoy a delicious gourmet vegetarian lunch  * receive recognition for your participation and your sponsor’s donation  * pledge to wellness goals


Music in the Park

Our annual "very fun" raiser is a gathering of friends with potluck dishes shared and  music donated by local musical groups and individual musicians. The event is held at Portstown Park Pavillion  usually late summer.  It has been a favorite activity for the past few years.  One you don't want to miss.


Forget the Winter Blues

Drum, dance, rattle, let your hair down or just feel the joy.  No experience or rhythm necessary.  Bring drums, rattles, flutes, hip scarves, etc. if you have them..  Others will be available for use.  Children are welcome.   The session will be led by the Rev. Dana Jefferson, Ph.D. The event is free but a donation to the Huntingdon Health and Wellness Association is appreciated.  Come to the Community Room downstairs.  For more information contact us at hhwa.org@gmail.com.
